Tonight's forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies becoming most clear shortly after sunset. The 92% waning gibbous Moon will rise at 10:15 p.m. offering a glimpse of dark skies after sunset. Additionally, the very active Independence Day celebrations in neighboring communities will add fabulous displays to our night sky. Previous forecasts had predicted unfavorable weather for tonight, though that appears to be changing as the day progresses and we may be lined up for a great night tonight!

We plan to open the Observatory and Sky Theatre at 8:30 p.m. tonight. In the Observatory, telescopes will feature Venus in 31% crescent, Jupiter with three Galilean Moons visible, and Saturn – which gave us amazing views last night at Frosty Drew. The Sky Theatre will have an astrophoto showcase on display featuring astrophotos shot at Frosty Drew Observatory. We plan to stay open until at least 11:00 p.m.

Make the best of your Independence Day celebrations by adding the stars to your list of awesome things to see tonight and set out to Frosty Drew and catch breathtaking views of Jupiter’s moons, Venus sexy crescent, and Saturn's fabulous rings. Happy Independence Day!
