Tonight's forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies in the afternoon clearing to mostly clear skies before sunset with clear skies sticking around for our stargazing night. Saturn will be on display sporting stunning rings and moons. Of course we will showcase the bright full Moon, which is also a Supermoon. Supermoons happen when a full lunar phase occurs within 24 hours of the lunar perigee (the Moon's closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit). Today's full lunar phase occurs at 2:35 p.m. EDT with the lunar perigee happening at 11:25 EDT tomorrow morning. Tonight's full Moon is also the last full Moon before the final total lunar eclipse of the current lunar tetrad (four consecutive total lunar eclipses), which occurs overnight September 27-28, 2015.

We will open the Observatory and Sky Theatre at 8:00 p.m. In the Observatory views of Saturn and the Supermoon will be display. The Sky Theatre will feature our popular astrophoto showcase and a place to kick back. We will stay open until at least 11:00 p.m.

Tonight is looking to be another fabulous night out under the crazy bright moonlight. Clear skies and cooler temps will make for excellent conditions to be out. So put Frosty Drew Observatory on your list of awesome things to do tonight and set out for a stunning view of the August Supermoon.
