Jupiter at Opposition

Jupiter at Opposition

Jupiter reached opposition on Friday February 6. 2015 at which point it was on the opposite side of Earth than the Sun. Around opposition is the best time to observe Jupiter. This is because Jupiter is at its closest point to Earth in out yearly orbit around the Sun. During opposition, Jupiter rises at sunset and sets at sunrise, arriving on the Meridian at midnight.

We shot this photo on Friday night, February 6, 2015 at Frosty Drew Observatory during out weekly Stargazing event. We will feature Jupiter throughout the remainder of winter and spring at Frosty Drew Observatory.
