Herschel 3945 - The Winter Albireo

Herschel 3945 is a fabulous double star residing in the constellation Canis Major. Herschel 3945, also known as 145 CMa, is sports beautiful color contrast of deep yellow and blue earning it the common name "Winter Albireo". The primary star in the this double star system lies 6,272 light years distant with the companion star found at 257.6 light years distant. The dramatic difference in distance these two stars have from one another make this system and optical binary, two stars that appear to be interacting that are actually not related.
