61 Cygni - Piazzi's Flying Star

61 Cygni, found in the constellation Cygnus, resides at 11.4 light years distant and is a stunning binary star. This star system is comprised of two K-type stars that are gravitationally bound and orbiting a common barycenter every 659 years. Just barely naked eye visible under dark skies, 61 Cygni has a very high proper motion (star's movement among the galaxy) with visible changes in position over a couple years.

We captured this at Frosty Drew Observatory in June 24, 2015.
