Messier 100 - A Spiral Galaxy

Messier 100 - A Spiral Galaxy
The Messier 100 (M100) galaxy is an intermediate spiral galaxy with a small bar. It is found in the constellation Coma Berenices, and resides at over 55 million light years distant. The galaxy spans a diameter of 107,000 light years. M100 is also considered a starburst galaxy because of a very compact ring around the galactic nucleus that is experiencing intense star formation. This galaxy is part of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies. Image credit: Frosty Drew Astronomy Team member, Scott MacNeill, captured this with the Frosty Drew PlaneWave CDK600 24 inch telescope.
