The August 2014 Supermoon

The August 2014 Supermoon

On Sunday August 10, 2014, the annual supermoon occurred. A supermoon happens when the monthly lunar perigee (the Moon's closest point to Earth in its orbit) happens within 24 hours of the full lunar phase. On August 10th, the closest lunar perigee of the year happened at 1:44 p.m. closely followed by the full Moon, which happened at 2:09 p.m.

Here is a photo we captured of the Supermoon on the night of August 10th after our Supermoon event.
