Orion Molecular Cloud Complex

Orion Molecular Cloud Complex

The Orion Molecular Cloud Complex is a visibly large group of bright nebulae, dark nebula, and young stars located across much of the constellation Orion. Residing at about 1,600 light years distant, the Orion Molecular Cloud is hundreds of light years in diameter. The cloud has visibility ranging from the unaided eye to purely infrared. The famous Orion Nebula (M42) is part of the Complex and is one of the naked eye visible components.

We shot this photo of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex on Friday February 13, 2015 at Frosty Drew Observatory.
