The Orion Molecular Cloud

The Orion Molecular Cloud
The Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, is a huge collection of star forming nebulae, reflection nebulae, supernova remnants, and an abundance of hydrogen. This region covers nearly the entire constellation of Orion, centered on the sword feature of the constellation, which is the subject of this image. The central object of this image is the fabulous Orion Nebula (Messier 42, Messier 43), which would represent the middle object in Orion's sword. The blue nebula above it is NGC 1977 reflection nebula, and the small star cluster below it is the Jewel Of Orion (NGC 1980). There are several other objects in this image including NGC 1999 reflection nebula, NGC 1981 star cluster, and more. Frosty Drew astronomer Scott MacNeill captured this image.
