Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy

Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy

We captured this shot of Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy at Frosty Drew Observatory on Friday, January 9, 2014. COmet Lovejoy has a crazy dynamic tail that appears to change significantly over the course of 12-24 hours. Lovejoy made its closest approach to Earth on Wednesday, January 7th and is now en route to perihelion, its closest approach to the Sun. The comet has risen quite high in our night sky and has been naked eye visible at Frosty Drew during moonless hours of the night. The viewing will continue through the end of January!
