Tonight's weather is looking rather unfavorable for stargazing. The forecast is calling for mostly cloudy skies becoming clearer overnight. The super thin 2% waxing crescent Moon will set at 6:25 p.m. just 27 minutes after sunset. The thin crescent will be mesmerizing to view and will leave the skies super dark for the remainder of the night. We will have a partial stargazing program available this week. Starting at 7:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. (weather permitting) the 10” Art Guarino telescope will be available for viewing in the observatory court yard. The Observatory will be open but the telescope will not be operational. We will return to our regular stargazing schedule on Friday, November 7th.

On Wednesday, October 29th, we will open the Observatory for our annual Spooky Views Halloween event. In the park, the Town of Charlestown will be holding the first ever Trunk or Treat event. We will open the Observatory at 6:00 p.m. and continue until 10:00 p.m. (weather permitting). On display will be planetary nebulae – the death throes of mid sized stars. Stop in either in costume or just as your usual self and take a peak at the the ghastly apparitions of dying stars.
