Bailey's Beads and Diamon Ring

Bailey's Beads and Diamon Ring
Quite a stunning photo, this image shows Bailey's Beads and the Diamond Ring affect of the total solar eclipse of 2024. Frosty Drew Astronomy Team member, Sean Perkins, captured this view from St. Albans, VT. In the image there appears to be beads of sunlight around the bottom left edge of the Sun. This is Bailey's Beads and is caused by topographic features of the Moon allowing sunlight to pass through. The Diamond Ring affect occurs the moment the Sun becomes visible as the Moon orbits out of the visible area of the solar disk.
