NGC 1499 - The California Nebula
The California Nebula is found in the constellation Perseus and stretches over 2ยบ of the sky. Residing at 1,800 light years distant, the California Nebula is an emissions nebula that spans 100 light years. The bright star just to the right of the nebula is Xi Perseus, which formed inside the nebula. Xi Perseus is blasting intense stellar wind into the nebula, ionizing hydrogen atoms.
