On Monday, April 8, 2024, a stunning total solar eclipse will occur over the United States of America, stretching from Texas into New England. At Frosty Drew we will experience an 89.5% partial solar eclipse, leaving a super thin crescent view of the Sun obscured by the Moon.

Starting at 2:14 pm, the eclipse will begin over Frosty Drew as the Moon enters the disk of the Sun. Maximum eclipse will occur at 3:28 pm, when the Moon obscures 89.5% of the Sun. The eclipse will end at 4:38 pm, when the Moon departs the disk of the Sun.

The Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center will be live streaming the entire eclipse starting at 1:00 pm ET. Frosty Drew Astronomy Team members are set up at locations across the nation, along the path of totality. We will offer stunning live views of all stages of the eclipse as well as periodic commentary on what we are seeing.

This is a huge event for residents of New England and one certainly not to be missed!

The Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center will NOT be hosting an onsite event for the eclipse.. Ninigret Park, and other wide open locations, will be a fantastic location to view the eclipse, but it is not necessary to travel if planning to stay in Rhode Island, as any place with a view of the Sun will be adequate. If choosing to visit Ninigret Park or specifically the Frosty Drew campus, we cannot vouch for equipment that people, who are not associated with Frosty Drew, may have set up. As such, we recommend that you do not look through any equipment that may be set up near Frosty Drew.
