Gail Keighley, RISD '76 graduate, and Russell Huguenin, 30 year veteran cabinet maker, founded Hayloft Handmade in the fall of 2011. Our mission was tocreate a business committed to handcrafted, green, works. Our first product was the Heirloom Air Dryer, constructed from native woods, and designed to dry clothing without the use of fossil fuels. Each beautifully crafted Air Dryer holds a full load of laundry on it's 50+ feet of drying area. Continuing on our green path we added the Heirloom Re-purposed Benches to our line. We deconstruct, then re- purpose old beds, bringing new life to old material. Retaining the original feeling while adding artistic new upholstery, each named and numbered bench combines the quality of the found object with the utility of new construction. Many of our pieces were brought to us by our customers, heirloom beds handed down from parents, grandparents, cherished children's beds and even wedding beds. These objects were saved in barns attics and garages, people unwilling to toss out such meaningful items but unable to place them in their current homes. Our creativity and craftsmanship bring these former neglected pieces to new life and usefulness while preserving their sentimental value. We are bring recycling to the forefront, mingled with superior craftsmanship and artistry.
