======================
Update:
The unexpected, unrelenting downpour that has hammered us all afternoon will keep the Observatory and Sky Theatre closed. Weather on site is dismal and there is no chance of telescope observation tonight. We will return to our regular Stargazing Nights schedule on Friday, June 23rd.
======================

Tonight is Stargazing Night at Frosty Drew Observatory and after two weeks of excellent Friday night weather, the clouds and rain are back. We can expect cloudy skies, t-storms, rain, wind, and fog all night tonight. Though we could have some excellent views of lightning from passing t-storms, celestial awesomeness will be highly unlikely.

We will open the Observatory and Sky Theatre at 7:00 tonight. In the Observatory, tours of our equipment and operations will be available. In the Sky Theatre we will host an open discussion on general astronomy while showing celestial objects photographed at Frosty Drew Observatory. The Observatory will stay closed during periods of thunder to reduce the risk of lightning strikes. We will stay open until 10:00 p.m.

Overall, tonight is certainly not a night for those making the long drive to catch sight of the Milky Way. Though if you’re looking to catch up on some of the awesome happenings in astronomy and space, then stop in and chat with our astronomers. Otherwise, this is a week to skip. Being that the last quarter Moon is passed, Milky Way viewing opportunities will become frequent each night over the next couple weeks. Let’s hope clouds and weather cut us a break next Friday.
