Welcome to the Frosty Drew Observatory Summer Stargazing Nights! Every Friday night (weather permitting) we open our Observatory, Sky Theatre, and telescopes to the skies and offer free stargazing and astronomy to anybody interested in observing with us.

Tonight's forecasts are calling for mostly cloudy sky conditions with passing showers. Conditions will likely start as a heavy haze. Even with the 68% waxing gibbous Moon present, views will be difficult. At this time we are expecting that telescope viewing will not happen tonight. Though we will open on a modified event schedule.

The Observatory, Science Center, and Sky Theatre will open from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm. In the Observatory, tours of our new PlaneWave telescope will be available. This is a chance to learn about how our new telescope works and how our team captures the fantastic imagery that we have. In the Sky Theatre we will show a feature of images captured at Frosty Drew Observatory with a live commentary from one of our astronomers. The Science Center will have exhibits on display with astronomy team members available to talk about the different exhibits. If rain holds off, we will host Story Time Under the Willow at 8:00 pm with a child friendly story. If sky conditions are better than expected, we will set up a telescope and open the Observatory PlaneWave to observe.

Overall, tonight is certainly not the night to make the long drive. We are expecting mostly cloudy conditions with heavy haze and potentially periodic showers. There will be a good deal of astro-geekery happening, but we will likely not be observing with our telescopes. Regardless, tonight is a night to hang out with our astronomers, learn a bit about how the Frosty Drew telescopes work, and catch up on some great things happening in our little sliver of the galaxy.

Preparing for Your Visit:

Check out our page on Visiting Frosty Drew Observatory to learn more about what to expect at the Observatory and better help you prepare for your visit.

Please note that we do not allow any white lights on our campus or in Ninigret Park from dusk - dawn, with the exception of low bean headlights while in motion. This is to ensure an equally awesome view of the night sky for all and to allow for the use of light sensitive astronomical equipment. Learn more about why we have this requirement in The Red Light District.
