NGC 253 - The Sculptor Galaxy

The Sculptor Galaxy (NGC 253) is found in the constellation Sculptor and resides at around 11.4 million light years distant. A starburst galaxy, NGC 253 is currently undergoing a period of massive star formation. This galaxy is part of the Sculptor Group, which is a group of galaxies that neighbors the Local Group. Our view of the Sculptor Galaxy is nearly on-edge (on its side), with about a 10° tilt allowing us to see the galactic spirals.
