To get an idea of the sheer prowess of the James Webb Space Telescope, one of the mirror segment alignment images was compared to the Spitzer IRAC (Infrared Array Camera), which is currently our best space-based infrared telescope. Keep in mind that this was only a calibration image from JWST and the IRAC image is the result of a real imaging session. The image on the left is IRAC, the image on the right is JWST. The difference in detail is nothing short of mind-blowing! This is what's to come.
