Comet C/2014 E2 Jacques

On Saturday August 23, 2014 we captured this image of Comet C/2014 E2 Jacques. Jacques, discovered on March 13, 2014 by Brazilian astronomers, is a long-period comet with an solar orbital period of 22,000 years. On July 2, 2014 Comet Jacques reached perihelion, its closest point to the Sun. On August 28, 2014 Jacques passed by Earth at a distance of 52,415,761 miles marking its closest point to Earth. The gravity of Jupiter and Saturn have altered Jacques orbital period, reducing it to about 12,000 years.
